4 Buildings Open Buildings Open October 4, 2026 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm Kennekuk County Park, 22296 Henning Rd, Danville, IL 61834, USA & Forest Glen Preserve, 20301 E. 900 North Road, Westville, IL 61883 At Forest Glen Preserve, the Gannett Education Center and Pioneer Homestead Cabin will be staffed with volunteers and open to the public for tours. Visitors to the Gannett Education Center can learn about Vermilion County plants and animals with displays, exploration tables, and more. The Pioneer Homestead Cabin takes visitors back in time to discover how early settlers lived in Vermilion County. At Kennekuk County Park, the Kennekuk Education Center and Bunker Hill Historic Area buildings will be staffed with volunteers and open to the public for tours as well. The Neff Grocery Store, Atwood Home, Bismarck Train Depot, and Red Oak School take people back to the time period of 1890's - 1940's. Tod add to the nostalgia, the Red Bud String Band will be performing at the Gazebo located in the Bunker Hill Historic Area. Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy and afternoon of nostalgia with tours of the buildings and live music! Visitors to the Kennekuk Education Center can learn about Vermilion County plants and animals with displays, exploration tables, and see photography work by Jared Lowe. 11 Kickapoo Rail Trail Guided Bike Ride Tour Kickapoo Rail Trail Guided Bike Ride Tour October 11, 2026 @ 4:30 pm - 6:30 pm 106 S Scott St, Oakwood, IL 61858, USA Participants will meet at the Oakwood KRT Rest node, 106 S. Scott Street, Oakwood at 4:30 pm. We will bike three miles to the KRT Trestle Bridge at a leisurely pace with a VCCD educator sharing KRT history and nature highlights along the way. The guided portion of the program will end at the KRT Trestle Bridge by 6:00 pm. Participants can then bike back to Oakwood at their own pace (6 miles round trip) or arrange vehicle pickup at the KRT Trestle Bridge Parking Lot, 17037 Pollock Ln, Oakwood, IL 61858. Program is open to all ages; under 16 need to be accompanied by an adult. Participants need to provide their own bike.
